| 4 Titles to Nelson Juniors at the Canterbury Junior Spring Open |

A large contingent of Nelson's top tennis juniors competed in the Canterbury Junior Spring open during the second week of the school holidays.
Alex Hunt teamed up with Benjamin McGillivroy and made the semi final of the 16/18's boys doubles before getting knocked out by 2nd seeds Jan Wiencke and George Wigley 7-6, 5-7, tb10-6. Hunt seeded 4th in the 18's boys singles and playing up an age group was knocked out first round by Wigley 7-6 (5) 3-6, 2-6. Hunt then went on to win the consolation plate 1-6, 7-5, tb 10-5. Hunt then played the 16's boys and seeded second cruised through to the final without dropping a set. In the final he met Taylor Quirk who in his first round match had knocked out Nelson's Hamish Low in a tight three set encounter 7-5, 5-7, 6-7 (5). Hunt went on to win the final 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Low continued his great tennis and made it through to the plate semi final however no further play took place due to rain. Bo Ade-Simpson seeded 6th in the 14's boys singles was beaten in the third round by 11th seed Young Baek 2-6, 4-6. Ade-Simpson then went on to win the consolation plate 6-0, 7-5 against Connor Heap. In the girls Ashleigh Calder and Breanne Johnson were top seeds in the 16/18's doubles, and despite being tested in the semi final they pulled out a great third set win to beat third seeds Brogan Maoate and Beth Williamson 6-4, 3-6, tb 10-4. The final was a tough contest and they were narrowly beaten 6-7, 6-7 by the second seeds Pang Suwanaposee and Rachel Swindell. Calder seeded number one in the 18's girls singles and playing up an age ground was knocked out first round by Suwanaposee, but learnt from that match and won the consolation plate final without dropping a set 6-2, 6-2 over Leah Woods. Calder then played in the 16's age group and seeded top cruised through her first three matches only dropping one game. She met Suwanaposee again in the semi final and this time Calder got sweet revenge beating her 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 in a tough battle. She then met Rachel Swindell in the final and continued her winning streak beating Swindell 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 Johnson made it through to the semi in the consolation plate but with the rain was unable to continue play. Nelson's player of the tournament was Amanda Coeland who took out the double winning both the singles and the doubles title. She didn't drop a set before getting to the final of the singles and beat Jessica Shaw 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. She then teamed up with Ilsje Erasmum and won the doubles final 1-6, 6-1 tb 10-3
